Compare the2024 Ram 1500 TRXVS 2024 Nissan Titan

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the 1500 TRX. But it costs extra on the Titan.

Both the 1500 TRX and the Titan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, rearview cameras, available collision warning systems, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Ram 1500 TRX weighs 532 to 937 pounds more than the Nissan Titan. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

There are over 2 times as many Ram dealers as there are Nissan dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the 1500 TRX’s warranty.

The Ram 1500 TRX’s engine uses a cast iron block for durability, while the Titan’s engine uses an aluminum block. Aluminum engine blocks are much more prone to warp and crack at high temperatures than cast iron.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the 1500 TRX has a standard 250-amp alternator. The Titan’s 200-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the 1500 TRX has a standard 800-amp battery. The Titan’s 710-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ram vehicles are better in initial quality than Nissan vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ram second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 39 more problems per 100 vehicles, Nissan is ranked 13th.

The 1500 TRX’s 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 302 more horsepower (702 vs. 400) and 237 lbs.-ft. more torque (650 vs. 413) than the Titan’s 5.6 DOHC V8.

As tested in Motor Trend the Ram 1500 TRX is faster than the Nissan Titan:

The 1500 TRX has 7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Titan (33 vs. 26 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The 1500 TRX has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Titan doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The 1500 TRX’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s at 4500 in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Titan doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the 1500 TRX’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Titan:

For better traction, the 1500 TRX has larger tires than the Titan (325/65R18 vs. 265/70R18). The 1500 TRX’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Titan (325/65R18 vs. 275/70R18).

The 1500 TRX’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 65 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Titan SV’s standard 70 series tires.

The 1500 TRX has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Titan doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The 1500 TRX has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The Titan’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The front and rear suspension of the 1500 TRX uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the Titan, which uses leaf springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The 1500 TRX has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The Titan’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The 1500 TRX has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The 1500 TRX’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Titan doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the 1500 TRX’s wheelbase is 5.3 inches longer than on the Titan (145.1 inches vs. 139.8 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the 1500 TRX is 6.5 inches wider in the front and 6.1 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Titan.

For greater off-road capability the 1500 TRX has a 2.9 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Titan Crew Cab (11.8 vs. 8.9 inches), allowing the 1500 TRX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The 1500 TRX’s minimum ground clearance is 2 inches higher than on the Titan PRO-4X Crew Cab (11.8 vs. 9.8 inches).

The 1500 TRX uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Titan doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The 1500 TRX has 12.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Titan Crew Cab (132.4 vs. 119.7).

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the 1500 TRX’s available rear seats recline. The Titan’s rear seats don’t recline.

The 1500 TRX has a much larger cargo box than the Titan Crew Cab shortbed (53.9 vs. 50.7 cubic feet).

The 1500 TRX’s cargo box is larger than the Titan’s in almost every dimension:

The 1500 TRX has an all welded cargo box to eliminate possible corrosion spots and to provide better chassis stiffness. The cargo box in the Titan is bolted through the bed to the frame with large bolts. These bolts are a prime area for corrosion to start as the normal flexing of the truck’s chassis causes them to eat through the finish; they can also snag cargo as it slides in and out.

The 1500 TRX can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the 1500 TRX can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Titan can’t be towed flat on the ground.

The 1500 TRX offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Titan doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The 1500 TRX’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Titan’s parking brake has to be released manually.

The power windows standard on both the 1500 TRX and the Titan have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the 1500 TRX is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The Titan prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The 1500 TRX’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the Titan’s standard halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the 1500 TRX has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Titan doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The 1500 TRX’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Nissan charges extra for heated mirrors on the Titan.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the 1500 TRX’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Titan doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The 1500 TRX has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the Titan.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Ram 1500 TRX offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Titan doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Four Wheeler performed a comparison test in its June 2021 issue and they ranked the Ram 1500 TRX first. They ranked the Nissan Titan PRO-4X Crew Cab fourth.

The Ram 1500 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023 and 4 more times in the last 5 years. The Titan has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

Motor Trend selected the 1500 TRX as their 2021 Truck of the Year. The Titan was Truck of the Year in 2017.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Ram 1500 as the 2019 North American Truck of the Year. The Titan has never been chosen.

The Ram Pickup outsold the Nissan Titan by over 31 to one during 2022.
